INTRODUCING…. COACHING

ON EVER-CHANGING AGILITY SET-UPS

Considering temperatures, June 27 - until further notice:

Shaded area set ups will be ever-changing.

Shady set-ups include

9 single jumps, double jump, triple jump, tunnel,

sometimes chute, weaves possible.

Arrangements and applications to facilitate new concepts each day.

It’s a unique offering -- agility coaching combined with time to practice concepts within competitive set-ups on our agility fields. No matter with whomever else you might train, this adjunct program will sharpen your competitive edge.

Dennis and Kris Butler practice agility daily on the 2 agility fields at American Dog Obedience Center. Ever-changing set-ups often include advanced courses, such as courses used at AKC Agility Nationals or Excellent Courses from trials. Within courses there are always easier concepts – wonderful for less advanced dogs and handlers. And field set-ups are not always complete courses – often, set-ups are designed to address specific concepts.

Now you and your dog can take advantage of the Butlers’ creative set-ups on an “as desired” basis. It’s fun to challenge yourself and, with coaching, you can master concepts within set-ups – developing new competitive skills.

Check the Blackboard located above and you will know what set-ups are currently offered. Simply phone or email to request an appointment. Note that we do not always check email on a daily basis.

  • An hour of field time with coaching costs $45 per handler if purchased individually; $115 for 3 sessions, if purchased in a cluster by the same handler.
  • Some restrictions apply. Participation is allowed only with instructor’s continued approval. Dogs must have received appropriate foundation training in order to participate in this program.

FOUNDATION AGILITY SKILLS FOR BEGINNERS

Many people imagine their dogs running in an agility venue, but few are able to develop a plan of action to get there. Some people believe agility is only a matter of getting dogs on the equipment and are disappointed to learn, later, their dogs were never introduced to the foundation skills that are necessary to achieve success in competitive venues. Effective competitive dog agility programs require coaching from the broader perspective.

Some of our pre-agility training is appropriate for dogs of any age. Moving ahead, even within pre-agility skills described below, a dog’s age and physical condition become important considerations which should be discussed with your veterinarian as well as your coaches

Through private lessons, our Pre-Agility Program offers dogs and agility handlers a age-appropriate introductions to:

  • Click and treat reinforcement system
  • Target training
  • 2on/2off contact equipment preparation
  • Left-side and right-side recall (to handler)
  • Proprioception – body awareness – introduced through practice on equipment developed especially for this purpose: wobble board, tiny teeter, contact board, dash board and mini A-frame.
  • Contact equipment (A-frame, teeter, dog walk) and pause table
  • Weave poles (introduced as weave-a-matic and/or channel) and tunnels
  • Jumping and handling

Foundation Agility Skills are taught through private lessons. A first lesson costs $100, and subsequent lessons cost $50 each.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Our agility programs focus on individual agility dog and handler needs. We realize group classes can cost less, but group classes limit individual working time to really low levels. We believe you get what you pay for in both time and instructor skill.
